Goal Mapping For Kids - Brian Mayne

Friday 3rd July 2009

By ‘Goal Mapping’ founder, Brian Mayne

"A child who can set and accomplish a simple goal,
will become an adult who knows the joy of changing the world"
- Linda & Richard Tyre

It’s a cold and drizzly winter’s afternoon at the school playing-field. ‘GOAL’, the triumphant cry pierces the gloom.

Shanti, my five-year-old daughter, has just scored and is running round excitedly. She’s the only girl in her football-team, in fact she’s the only girl on the pitch, and is rightly pleased at scoring.

It comes naturally to us to score goals or ‘achieve things’ and then celebrate our success. Learning to walk, talk, ride a bike or pass an exam are all goals, intentions or aims that we hold for ourselves, just the same as all other learnt skills and achievements are gained through mental goal setting.

A child’s mind is pre-programmed to; ‘I don’t know what I can do so I’m going to find out’. Goal setting is the natural process by which we gain knowledge, learn skills and develop abilities.

In fact, the process of setting goals and holding aims is so natural to us that most people don’t even notice when it’s happening.

However, throughout history, and across all walks of life, it is the people who nurture and practice their natural ability to set goals, who eventually develop it into a powerful habit of success. They are people who aim and succeed a little higher. And invariably become the great achievers in life.

Quite simply; learning how to set and achieve goals is the master-skill for life because it is the skill that enables you to identify and gain all other skills or abilities.

For many years I have been teaching children the art of goal success through my system of Goal Mapping. Using a unique combination of words and pictures Goal Mapping activates the users whole-brain, thereby sending a very powerful thought command to their subconscious about; ‘What’ they want, ‘When’ and ‘Why’ they want it, ‘How’ they are going to get it, and ‘Who’ they would like to help them achieve it.

Over 100,000 children have used Goal Mapping to help them clarify what they want to do in their future, feel motivated to make an effort, and stay committed to their course of action. Goal Mapping has been used with children of all ages and for all manner of achievements including; a successful transition from primary to secondary school, exam success, sporting achievements, and aiming for higher or further education.

Children have fun creating their Goal Maps and become very excited at the thought of achieving them. The process of drawing pictures that represent their goals, as well as writing in words, comes naturally to children and powerfully commands their subconscious to move them towards their goals. Once the Goal Map has been drawn it continues to work by being a positive reminder about their chosen future, gradually helping them continue down the path of their purpose towards the life of their dreams.
